i feel like I could have written so much of your post. One of my biggest frustrations with church was that Matt and I volunteered, were always available for everything our church needed, yet we felt we had no friends from church.
We led small groups in our home, and so many of them just didn’t gel. However, this last semester something changed. With this new group of people, our prayers changed. We cried, we laughed, we fasted together. God brought this group together, and I finally found the friendships I needed.
Like your group, the ages vary; although most are our age. Some have left, and new people have joined, but I cannot wait every other week to meet with our family.
In Waco, we were in a church that did small groups well, and it was the core of our lives. When we moved six years ago, we haven’t found anything like it since. Maybe we’ll have to wait a few more years, until the season you’re in.
We just began a small group in our home a few weeks ago. It is still very small, but it is exactly what we need now. One of the member said it feels like therapy when she leaves. And that is what it feels like being open and vulnerable and healing and challenging. It has been wonderful. God has made it wonderful.
i love how you didn’t give up… and i love how God showed up for you friend. you are such an encouragement to me, friend… love to you. e.
I’d love to be in a small group with you. 🙂
