31 Days of Looking for the Little: Looking Up

DSC01363 looking up

There are too many days when I forget to do this — to look up. To get my eyes off the ground, or my feet, or my neighbor and look up.

Up where the sun is shining — or the rain is falling. Up where the leaves are twinkling, where the birds are roosting, where the clouds are blowing. Up.

I was walking through the lobby of a beautiful auditorium in Pasadena when I stopped looking at the carpet for just a moment. And when I looked up — I saw this glory. Oh, my.

An amazing chandelier — not a little thing at all. But the act of looking up was little. Just a small change in perspective, just a little bit of motion, and whammo — spectacular.

I need to look up more.

How about you?

  1. Yes! I definitely need to look up. Thanks for the reminder, Diana! Blessings!

    • You’re welcome, Martha! Been out of town for a bit and off the computer, so I’m late replying to comments. Thanks so much for faithfully reading and commenting.

  2. I love this. my spiritual director friend taught me to look up, look down, look around and see what God has for you. Pay attention. When i deliberately do this, He always has something for me. He’s like that, isn’t he!

  3. I have a bad habit of looking down when I walk. And with glasses I have to tilt my head way down. I was not aware I did this for years, til a friend pointed it out to me. Three cheers for looking up.

    Fondly,
    Glenda

    • I look down a lot too – primarily because I wear progressive lenses and I have to get my footing. (even more so since this year of injury and recovery). But I try to stop periodically and just take a gander at what else is happening besides my own feet! Three cheers, indeed!

  4. There is art to be found in unexpected places!

With decades of sprained ankles bringing arthritis, I’m unsteady on uneven ground, so I have to be careful where I step. I’m always looking down. But when I go for a walk, I make a point of stopping regularly to look around. I need to remind myself to look up, too. 🙂

    • I’m right with you, Carol. I have to be very careful on uneven ground myself = but I try to do what you do: when I walk I pause periodically to look around. And I’m never sorry.
