Quiet for the Weekend

“You are to shine among them like
lights in the world,
clinging to the word of life.”
Philippians 2:15b – The Kingdom New Testament,
a contemporary translation by N.T. Wright
Firefly lights are the most efficient lights in the world—
100% of the energy is emitted as light.
I’d say that’s a worthy goal.
To live like a firefly.
Blessed weekend to you, friends.

  1. Clinging to the word of life, praying that I will shine like fireflies! Love those orchids, just gorgeous. And I grew up going to the Ozarks with my grandparents and we ran around with glass jars catching fireflies at night. Thanks for bringing that happy memory back to me. Happy Sunday to you Diana.

  2. Amen to that, Shelly. LOVED the picture of that yellow ‘weed’ at your place tonight. Thanks so much for dropping by.

  3. Carol J. Garvin says

The light on those creamy blossoms is exquisite! I’ve never seen a real firefly, but the analogy is perfect. “Let your light so shine…”

  4. You know what? I’ve never seen one, either! I’ve always wanted to but never managed to be anywhere near where they flourish at the right time of the year. Yet I’d still like to shine like one! Thanks for stopping by, Carol.

  5. Clinging to the word of life. What a word picture!

    Beautiful light on those orchids.

  6. Thanks, Deidra. Those orchids are raised by my husband. We have two huge pots full of blooms sitting in our living room this month and I happened to catch these at just the right time a few weeks ago.

  7. So much beauty in this. It will soon be “firefly season” here. They are fascinating to watch.

  8. Diana Trautwein says

Oooh, take some pictures, Susan – and let me know, please. Cause I can’t figure out how to subscribe to your blog as I do all others by email and don’t use readers. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting – I am always delighted to see your name here

  9. What Carol said. Exquisite light on those orchids. To be 100% efficient in light shedding. How I’d love that. Our yard and fields will sparkle when the fireflies arrive.

  10. Thanks, Sandy. I walked by those orchids at about 4:30 or 5 in the afternoon lots of times and finally just had to get the camera out of the car and sit and shoot a few. They have been stupendous this year – and they live a long time and bloom a long time in the house.

  11. oh, Diana, I did not know that about fireflies. Another reason to be amazed at God’s creation.  Your photos are stunning.

  12. I didn’t know it either, Jody, until I did a google search on the phrase “lights int he world.” But I loved it when I saw it. Thanks for stopping by – always nice to see you here.

  13. To live like a firefly — 100% natural, 100% efficient, all light, all love, filled to overflowing with Christ — worthy indeed!  Gorgoeus photos too!

  14. Thank you, Cindee – for your words and for stopping by.

  15. Joanne Norton says

Sometimes we are a “light” that is received with joy and gladness; sometimes we are “light” that is lashed and struck, attempting darkness.  It was the same with Jesus.  Time doesn’t change in that aspect.  And neither does He… always faithful and filling us with Light and Light and more Light.

  16. Seems like the only job requirement for light is to shine. Some will receive it warmly – some will not. As much as is humanly possible, I’m thinking we ought not to worry ourselves overmuch with how people respond/receive. As long as the light is as clear and true as possible, of course.

  17. Esther Hunter says

    Stunning!

  18. thanks for stopping by, Esther.
